HOW TO PROPERLY CLEAN AND CARE FOR YOUR GORE-TEX® GEAR

How to Properly Clean and Care for Your GORE-TEX® Gear
If your GORE-TEX® jacket or pants aren’t performing like they used to, the solution might be simpler than you think: they need a wash. Regular cleaning is essential to maintaining waterproofness and preserving that legendary breathability GORE-TEX® is known for.
Contrary to popular belief, dirt, sweat, and oils can clog the fabric’s pores, reducing performance over time. The good news? With the right care routine, your gear can perform like new again.
Step 1: Wash It (Yes, Really)
Machine wash your GORE-TEX® gear in warm water using a mild detergent. Liquid detergent is generally recommended, as it rinses more cleanly than powders.
Once the wash cycle is complete, run an additional rinse cycle. This step is crucial—any leftover detergent residue can interfere with breathability and water repellency.
Pro tip: Avoid fabric softeners, bleach, and stain removers. These can damage the membrane and the fabric’s performance.
Step 2: Dry to Recharge the DWR
Drying your gear isn’t just about getting it warm and cozy—it actually helps reactivate the Durable Water Repellent (DWR) finish on the fabric surface.
Tumble dry on medium heat until the garment is completely dry. For best results, it’s highly recommended to add an extra 20 minutes to ensure the fabric is fully dried and the DWR is properly recharged.
Why This Matters
Clean gear breathes better, sheds water more effectively, and keeps you comfortable in harsh conditions. Regular washing and proper drying extend the life of your GORE-TEX® gear and ensure it performs when you need it most—whether you’re in the mountains, on the trail, or commuting through a storm.
Take care of your gear, and it’ll take care of you. 💧🏔️
